While my husband and my father-in-law were away from home, my mother-in-law and I got pregnant at the exact same time.

But the content…

My fingers started to tremble as I scrolled through the conversations.

There were no ordinary medical messages. No ultrasound photos, no doctor’s advice. Instead… there were contracts. Sums of money. Instructions.

“The transfer must be done quietly.”

“The original mother must not make contact under any circumstances.”

“The DNA report will be altered as agreed.”

My breath caught in my throat.

Transfer?

Original mother?

DNA altered?

It no longer sounded like a normal pregnancy… it felt like something dangerous.

Then I saw something that made my blood run cold.

A document, half-photo, half-scan. A medical report.

“Surrogate transfer – successful.”

“Embryo source: Chloe Anderson.”

My name.

I almost dropped the phone.

My head started spinning.

This… this made no sense.

I was pregnant. My baby was inside me. How could there be another embryo of mine… inside her?

My heart was pounding wildly. I quickly read further.

“Primary embryo cloned from original cellular material.”

“Client requests genetic continuation for family lineage.”

I suddenly felt as if the world was disappearing from under my feet.

Helen… used my genetic material?

Without my permission?

I quickly put the phone back just as I heard the sound of the shower stop.

That night, I didn’t sleep.

Every thought cut through my head like a sharp knife.

If this is true… does that mean Helen’s baby… is also my child?

But why?

Why would she do such a thing?

The next morning, I watched her. Every movement. Every look.

She was the same as always: cool, controlled, untouchable.

But now I saw something I had never noticed before—a shadow of tension in her eyes.

I couldn’t stay quiet any longer.

“Mom… we need to talk.”

She turned to me slowly.

“About what?”

My throat felt dry.

“About the clinic in Houston.”

For the first time… her face changed.

Just for a second. But it was enough.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said coldly.

I took a deep breath.

“I saw your phone.”

Silence.

The air between us grew heavy.

Then… she laughed softly.

Not friendly. Not warm.

But dangerously quiet.

“You are smarter than I thought, Chloe.”

My heart clenched.

“That’s my child, isn’t it?” I whispered.

She looked at me for a long time.

Then she said something that finally shattered my world:

“It’s not just your child… it is the only true heir of this family.”

I took a step back.

“What does that mean?”

She started to pace slowly, like someone who had waited a long time to tell the truth.

“Do you really think your pregnancy was a miracle? After four years?”

My eyes filled with tears.

“What did you do…?”

“I made sure that this family lives on.”

Her voice was ice-cold.

“Your husband is infertile, Chloe.”

Those words exploded in my head like thunder.

“No… that’s not true…”

“He doesn’t know. No one knows. Except me… and now you.”

I could barely breathe.

“So… my baby…”

“Your baby is not genetically his.”

I felt my legs give way.

“Whose child am I carrying then?!”

Helen looked me straight in the eyes.

“Robert’s.”

My father-in-law.

The room started to spin.

I held my stomach, as if I could push the truth away.

“You’re lying…”

“I didn’t give you a choice,” she said calmly. “You wanted a child. The family needed an heir.”

My voice broke:

“And you…?”

She placed her hand on her own flat stomach.

“I am carrying the perfect version. Your genetics… combined with our bloodline. Without flaws. Without risks.”

I realized… she didn’t see me as a human being.

Only as a means to an end.

Only as a vessel.

“You are sick…” I whispered.

For the first time, her eyes darkened.

“No, Chloe. I am the only one willing to do what is necessary.”

I stepped back, shaking my head.

“I’m going to tell Dylan.”

Her lips curled slightly.

“And what are you going to say? That you’re pregnant with his father’s child?”

I froze.

She stepped closer, her voice soft but deadly:

“If this truth comes out… you lose everything.”

Tears ran down my cheeks.

I was trapped.

But deep inside me… something changed.

I wasn’t just afraid anymore.

I was angry.

That night, I made a decision.

I wasn’t going to stay quiet.

I copied all the evidence.

Every message. Every document.

And then… I called someone.

Not Dylan.

But a doctor. An independent one.

Two days later, I sat in his office, my hands ice-cold.

He looked at the results… and slowly looked up at me.

“Mrs. Anderson… this matter is very serious.”

My heart skipped a beat.

“The baby you are carrying… and the embryo implanted in the other woman…”

He swallowed hard.

“They are identical.”

I closed my eyes.

“Twins?”

He shook his head.

“Not natural twins.”

Silence.

Then the words that changed everything:

“It is a genetic duplication.”

I knew it.

Everything was true.

But what I didn’t know… was that Helen had already planned her next move.

That night, I woke up to a sharp pain in my stomach.

I tried to get up… but my body wouldn’t listen.

My vision started to blur.

And the last thing I saw…

was Helen, standing quietly beside my bed.

“I’m sorry, Chloe…” she whispered.

“But there is only room for one heir.”

Darkness swallowed me.

When I opened my eyes again… I was in a hospital.

My hand immediately went to my stomach.

Flat.

My breath hitched.

“No… no…”

A nurse said softly:

“Ma’am… you lost the baby.”

My world went quiet.

But then…

A voice at the door.

Helen.

“Don’t worry, Chloe.”

I slowly looked at her.

She smiled.

For the first time.

“The family’s heir is safe.”

I understood everything.

And in that moment… I swore:

This story does not end like this.

Not for me.

Not for my child.

Not for the truth.
